BAYOU CITY BARTER FAIR May 3, 1-4pm Hosted by Houston Simplicity Network, Live Oak Friends
Meeting, WHEN? Saturday, May 3, 2008 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. WHERE? Emile Community Farm 700 North Emile, Houston 77020 WHY? To practice simplicity and provide an alternative to media-driven consumerism WHAT? The Barter Fair provides an opportunity to trade objects and services without using common currency. This gives us a chance to think in a new way about the way we place value on objects and services within our community. HOW can you get involved? Last year many who participated enjoyed the experience and expressed an interest in creating events like this more often in Houston, so come and experience it for yourself! To find out more about how Barter Fairs work, got to Houston Simplicity Networks website http://www.simplicity.tripod.com CHILDREN ARE WELCOME! There will be a designated area for free items that you are willing to give to whoever wants them. Visitors may then use such items to barter and trade with if they wish. (Three-way-trades are possible, too.) No money will be exchanged for services or goods.

VOLUNTEERS We love making new friends and that's what you become when you spend a little time at the Outpost. Some of the items we need help with are the weekly watering schedule, weeding the garden and in the near future help with the Sunday Pick & Pay co-op. Please contact us to get started or stop by between 10am-5pm!!! MEMBERSHIP Individual/Family Members Student / Senior $25 Business Members Sustainability Program
PICK & PAY CO-OP Please join us every Sunday for our Pick and Pay Co-op! Guests can pick their own seasonal fruit & vegetables straight from the garden. The benefits of buying locally-grown produce from this co-op is that it doesn't travel far to get to your table. This saves fossil fuels, allowing you to purchase them at a reasonable price. It also allows the consumer to pick produce at the peak of flavor, preserving the nutritional content. Eating foods that are in season also helps the body to be in alignment with its environment. Our food is produced without any pesticides or fertilizers that are made with synthetic ingredients/sewage, sludge or bioengineering. We ask for donations based on the amount of produce you take as all funds will go back to help expand the farm as well as preserve natural resources. Our goal is to produce healthier foods, lifestyles and increase understanding of the importance of maintaining small, sustainable farms. Bring your family to pick squash, zucchini, peppers, cucumbers and more. Volunteers are always welcome! Please call Guilherme at (718)350-4190 or email at guigatuica@gmail.com
Please bring your favorite vegetarian dish and join us for dinner every Sunday around 6:30pm! There is an abundance of great things to come and we always give thanks for the wonderful people who help make the Last Organic Outpost successful. Support local farming by working with us and others promoting a local agriculture. Donations are much needed and appreciated. Connect, grow and wake up, the garden world is rising from the depths of being a place of plenty. Iri'ni
Raw Foods Preparation
Party and Potluck Join us every Sunday night, starting at 6:30pm at the Community Center and often going into the night, for our Raw Foods Preparation Party and Potluck. Bring a pre-prepared raw dish, or bring a raw ingredient (or two or five or ten) and learn new techniques while preparing raw foods with the community. We also make fresh juices on Sunday nights, so juice ingredients are very welcome. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, bring stuff fresh from your own garden if you have one, and come eat with us!
